The success of an individual cannot be defined or measured if it is not clearly outlined and quantified. In this case, Adolf Hitler, Idi Amin, and Ferdinand Marcos could claim to be successful people in their work, family, and community life, simply by asking themselves. However, how can we measure the success that comes from "asking your heart"? Covey did not provide a specific tool to distinguish between failure and success. Those who succeed at work, family, and community may indeed be considered successful. While Covey's book teaches readers how to become successful individuals, it has several shortcomings. ![]() ![]() For instance, the book fails to clearly define what constitutes "highly effective people." The author presents himself as a great teacher, superb speaker, and humble family man. One of his most influential habits is "Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood," which is both philosophical and practical. Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (also referred to as the "7 Habits") has become a best-selling book.
